I had it in my 99 SS, and couldn't get it out quick enough. Even after it was tuned it drove like crap. There are many other choices out there that would be better suited. The hotcam is an old design. Go with a TR224 or something comparable, it will make more power, and drive almost like stock with a tune.

I had this in my '98 SS Camaro and liked it. It was the cheapest Cam around and the low lift (.525) was easier on the springs and valves. It uses LS6 springs.

I never had my car tuned, and I believe it was in desperate need for one as I was nowhere near passing my state emissions test with this Cam. I aslo had FLP LT headers and stock catback.

The Cam sounded incredible, very lopey. It provided pretty good daily driving characteristics but was not like the stock cam. It made good power at mid-rpm levels, but due to the lower lift, it didn't make huge power up top. I dynod at 361-rwhp if memory serves correct. With a tune I would have expected to easily be in the 370's and more likely in the 380's. That car sounded freaking awesome with the cutout open. I miss that thing dearly.

Like someone else said, most any other cam choice will offer more peak hp but with the 112 LSA and 118/127 intake exhaust, that thing sounded mean at idle.

To the 2 of you who have or had the hotcam and like it, have you ever driven or owned an LS1 powered vehicle with a different cam in it to compare to?

YEs I have driven many other cars that had different cams in them, is the Hotcam the best one?? no, but it made great power for me for the cam it was, a mild cam then, a baby cam now Im sure. I have had it in the car for 4 yrs and have actually been tossing around the idea of swappin it out. When I put this cam in I was on a budget so I didnt have to run out and retune the car right away and it fit my needs. I still had driveability with minimal stalling issues. By all means there are alot of cams to choose from but for the price its the best bang for that low buck imo!
