Default Fuel Leak

I filled the car up today for the first time in awhile an when I got home the wife was going to drop our daughter off at a friends an called an said the car really smelled like gas. Well she was gonna be nice an stop an vaccum it out for me an she called me back saying the car was leaking gas bad. So I go up there an there is a pool of gas under the passanger side about 4' circum. I drive it home thinking I had a hole in the gas tank. Once I got home I pulled under my carport an start looking for a leak but there is nothing. The underside is dry an everything. After the car set for awhile th leak started again. So I start the car up an the leak stops. Anyone ever seen anyhting like this before?? I called a mechanic friend of mine an he is thinking its the cross over hose but if so whys it only leaking when the engine is off???

Guess its time to burn this tank out an go back to putting $20 in it at a time.

There is a topic on the forum with the exact same problem you have.
Some vettes are known to leak from crossover tube
on passenger side from a clamp getting lose. It leaks more when the car is shut off because the system is wanting to bleed back to the left tank.

Yes, do a search. There is much on this. Hopefully your problem is related to the fuel filter which is easier to fix.

Here is a link to my issue with the tank.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1746325

It is possible that the crossover tube connector backed off. A good mech should be able to eyeball the connector with a flash light and mirror to see if that is the issue.

Good luck with tracking the leak down

And I had a thread from 2006 timeframe with the same issue. On my 2004, the driver's side gas tank got out-of-round where the crossover feedtube plugged in. A new tank solved the problem. I used Corvettes of Houston to do the work once I realized that it was more intensive than my skill base at the time. Of course, this was also the first time COH had come across this particular problem... They did say that the crossover feedtube 'snapped' into position on the new tank, whereas there was no 'snap' whatsoever from the old tank. I think the '04's just had a bad run of tanks and it's turned into a lottery for us!
