When I step on the gas while driving at speeds of 40 to 50 mph (transmission in overdrive) the transmission seems to stutter then downshifts to a gear that provides more power. I’m not sure if this is normal for automatic transmissions, but it does not feel right to me. I owned a Camaro that did the same and the problem corrected itself when I had the transmission fluid changed.
Did anyone every experience this problem and how did you correct it?
Do u mash the gas quickly or slowly depress to the floor?
Keep in mind, when driving at constant speed, ur prob in O/D and you could have a torque lockup converter engaged as well. It will feel like an extra shift. So your tranny will have to disengage the lockup and then shift to 2nd or 3rd depending on throttle pos.
Try this...put into 3rd gear using the gear shift and then mash it!!!
Mine is doing the same thing. I drag race my car occasionally and think I may need a rebuild after using drag radials. I was told this would happen by my engine builder. My car has 90,000 hard miles on it so I think it's time.
That's how the stock tranny feels. I had my trans tuned. Shortened the shift times (.250Sec.). Pushed upshift points to a higher RPM setting. Pulled in downshift points to a lower RPM setting. By lowering the downshift RPM/TPS settings the car will not feel like its lugging when you give it some gas at 1500 - 2000 RPM's. It will just downshift sooner.
