Default Seatbelt question.

My passenger seatbelt has stopped working properly..dang it! Somehow the internal mechanism has jammed up or broken completely. Anyone know how much it is to fix this or to replace it? Unfortunately, it is not a covered item under my after-factory warranty..go figure!!

Just curious, who is your extended warranty with? GM or Major Guard would cover this.

Well, I bought it from my credit union when I financed it. It is called Mercury Insurance Co. and I am covered up to 85K. I checked around and had several banks tell me that they were very reputable and well worth it. I have had to use them on 2 occasions and so far they have been very helpful. But again, my passenger restraint system just happens to be one of the non-covered items..arghhhhhhh

That sucks...maybe you can get it to retract if you mess with it some. My belts have to be coaxed sometimes. It's really a pain when they are fully extended out. Hopefully, it's nothing more than this.

There is a recall on the passenger side seat belt. If it's been done there should be a recall campain sticker inside drivers door. Go to a dealer.

This has happened to many of us. Have you tried to pull it out very slowly, working it up and down as you do? This has relased teh jam in most cases. I have my passengers be very careful when they relaese the belt. In the past the majority of the jams was caused by the webbing twisiting as the belt was released. GM is replacing the belt under warr. in some cases. The fix is a plastic spacer that fits in the slot to keep the belt from twisting. It is a safety issue for sure. Try couple of dealers to see if they can be of help, then call the BBB to file a complaint. Might get GM to respond.

I thought that seat belts were covered for the life of the vehicle if there was no tampering with them? Just like smog related items are covered for 60K, 80K and 100K...

I have heard of the problems with the seatbelts twisting. But I should have been more clear on this..the actual problem with mine is in the catch and release portion on the console side of the seat. I cannot even insert the seatbelt latch into it because it will not lock it in. The red push button release seems to be jammed or broken and will not function at all. Oh well, dealership here I come..arghhhhhhhhhhhh

Had the same problem with my drivers side belt and it took a week to order the part. Mine was under warrenty, but I think safety stuff like this ought to be also. Bitch & moan and maybe they'll fix it just to keep you quiet around the other customers.... :seeya

True. I had mine fixed at dealer for this. Didn't really make that much of a difference. Still gets stuck out. You just have to pull on it a couple of times until it retracts....
