I thought you guys might be interested in this, even though it isn't any type of Vette engine. They have a camera inside a 4 cly engine showing the action inside a cylinder while the engine is running. Very cool.
Does it look like it burns "hotter" or more burning on the right or intake valve! if I was "smart" enough to figure out the sequence?
What you are seeing as flames is pockets of rich fuel mixture finally burning. Most of the combustion happens when the combustion chamber "lights up", and that happens pretty fast. Then you have the red flames, which are areas of rich mixture that aren't burning until later. It just goes to show that the combustion process isn't as complete as we all like to think.
Also interesting to note is the amount of fuel that is coming in as raw fuel, and isn't vaporized. Lots of wet stuff coming in during the intake stroke.
If you're going to go through that much trouble to film something like that, wouldn't you want the full 4-strokes filmed?
Still, very cool. Thanks!
They probably did film the entire sequence, it is likely impossible to have not done so in that the film is running so fast, and you did see a lot of the exhaust stroke, just not to were the piston came into view. Besides, there isn't much of anything to see in that part of the cycle...
