As you can see I don't know much about cars (i'm learning though :p:) and I was wondering what the throttle body does and what is the point in the bypass and if there are any performance gains by using it. I've seen a lot of people that have this as a mod and I was wondering if it would be worth my time
The TB bypass is used to redirect the coolent(anti-freeze) around the TB.
The coolent as we all know gets hot, and as it passes throught the TB it in turn heats up the TB. As ambient air pass thru the TB that air in turn gets "warmed up" by the hot TB. Warmed air expands and thus restricks the amount of air (less oxygen per cubic ft) that can enter the combustion chamber. Cooler air on the other hand is more dense and less restrictive allowing more air (more oxygen per cubic ft) to enter the combustion chamber.
It's an easy mod, it's cheap, and the performance gains are very minimal.
For most of us "street/Cruise" guys, it is probably not worth the effort. However, if you want to do it, just run a hose from the radiator to the pass. side head; you do not need a "kit" with a tube and clamps, etc. Enjoy... :)
