Default My Z06 Chromies Experience

I wanted a littlebit more of a filled in look than the stock wheels. For the money the chrome Z06 wheels looked like my best bet. My first choice was the Fikse Mach V's, but they cost too much in retirement dollars for me. I ordered mine from West Coast Corvette. They came the day they said they would and I started scouting around for someone to put them on. You wouldn't believe the BS I got from the various tire shops. One even said they would have to be mounted in a cage. In case they exploded I guess. Another harped about how expensive the sensors were and they could take NO responsibilty! Taking the advice of some of the other forum members even though they were from different states, I had mine put on at Discount Tire Co. Concord, NC. These people are a class act. I explained my concerns about jacking the car and thier attitude was: we will put it up on jacks together so you can approve the jack points. As it turned out, Tom Roz, the manager, knew exactly where to jack the car. They jacked per factory recomendations, and used pads under the floor jacks. They let me stay with my car. They did not use an impact wrench. They sequentially torqued everything into place. They asked me to return after 25 miles to retorque and I drove off with no problems. Since I did a trade in, old rims for new, I put the old rims in the box and called West Coast and they issued a pick up order for next week. I've got to say, this is pretty much the Gold Standard for a wheel swap. I hope everybody can have this type of experince.

They are replicas. The stock Z06 wheels are not chrome. I bought them from WC because the give you a 3 year warrantee on the chrome.
Cost 1450, less core = 800. Shipping to NC and core return shipping = 150
Install:
Computer ride match (whatever that is) 60
Computer spin balance 67.96
Labor 80
Total cost to switch: 1,157.97 American dollars

Mash,
Thanks for passing that story on. I'm in Huntersville so I'll be visiting Discount Tire in Concord when the time comes for a tire change. It certainly is refreshing when you experience quality customer care and workmanship. It's all too rare these days. Thanks again.

I had my run flats mounted on the Z06 rims. I gave it a good run, can't tell any difference in the ride. May switch to a Z06 size tire like the stock GY Super Car. Maybe not, I hate flats tires.

so you got the stock zo6 sizes(17x9.5,18x10.5), or the c5 z06 sizes?(17x8.5, 18x9.5)

what tires are you using?
245/275s
or
265/295s?

im trying to figure out which way i want to go.
thank you for the quick response.

Im using chrome reproduction Z06 rims. They are the stock Z06 size. You can put the FS1SC tire on them if you want (stock Z06 tire). I put my stock C5 run flats on the rims. Even though the rims are bigger you can do this. When my rum flats wear out, I may go to a non run flat. Probably not though, I don't want to be sitting on the side of the road trying to plug a tire.
Hope this helps

I have seen those wheels and really like them. Good pick.

And I SO much like to hear people having good experiences with vendors.
Thanks for letting us know. Even though I live in Texas, I'm glad to know there are such folks out there in the world.

would you recommend going with the stock z06 sizes over the c5 sizes?
if there really isnt a difference in ride, i may go with the Z06 sizes and put them on my stock c5 tires. arent they an inch wider? thats neat that they work on the smaller tire. do your sensors still work perfect?
anyone who has done this....recommend doing this?
getting the stock coupe tires mounted on Z06 rims?
im just worried that Ill order them, and then shops will give me crap and say "they are two wide, they wont work!"

I didn't think you could put a stock size runflat on a ZO6 size wheel... LtMash are you sure about this? The ZO6 wheel is an inch wider and its hard to believe they could get the bead to seat, much less the sidewall to move that much. I have been wanting ZO6 wheels but I didn't want to buy 4 tires also. If you did in fact get them on, I might just have to make the switch.

You've got a cool ride there, Snowman. As a matter of fact, someone in Dallas, Tx I believe, put me on to them. You might look back through some of the Chromies post and pick up the Texas location. If I come across it, I'll let you know.

MT,
Trust me, you can do this. I can only speak for the Z06 Chromies from WC. I think they are the same size as as the factory Z06 Rims. I have a fellow club member that has a Z06. He runs the Z06 Chromies from WC on his car with the F1SC's. You can not tell any difference in the ride or the appearance of the run crap on the chromie. It does look like the wheel sticks out of the car little more, which I think looks cool. Could be my imagination. If you have an questions, call Todd at WC. 1 888 737 8388
