I Have a 2001 Vette, I was driving on the Highway yesterday about 70 mph, went to slow down and felt as if someone had pulled my parking brake up and the car started to slown. ike the brakes were stuck. I did check to see if se reason the parking break had beeen on, and it was not. I pulled over to the side of the road, and taped the breaks a few times, and put it i gear to see if it would roll. It did roll fine,so I got back on the road. My problem is it feels lie when I use my brakes now that they are grabbing the rotors sometimes, and not releasing all the way. PLEASE HELP!!! also took it to the dealership, and they could not find a problem. My parking break seems to not be working well either. Any Ideas as what may be going on?????
This sounds like a booster problem that was discussed some time ago. I'm sorry to hear it is still a problem on the 2001 cars. Perhaps you could try the search function and find some help. I'll look to see if I have anything in the file.. Good luck.
I had mine replaced about 6 months ago. It was a problem in the early '01 production year. I think from start of production to the end of Sept 00 for '01 models. If I recall right, the original booster was 15lbs. The replacement is 18lbs. I don't think they ever did release a TSB (check Ken's news letter), but the GM Service Help line will confirm the problem for the Service underwriter.
The sure test is to get the RPM's above 2500 in 2nd or 3rd (3rd might be a bit fast for the test :D ) then punch the brake. After removing your foot, the brake pedal will stick.
Scared the poopie out of me the firt time it happened, I was passing on a narrow, winding country road and traffic was comming the other way.
