I have a 2001 Mag Red A4 Coupe with 2000 miles, no mods, yet. It is a great car. After the car is warm, sitting at a light I feel an intermitent shake in the engine idle that moves the whole car very slightly. Like a slight miss. Is this normal? The car hasn't been back to the dealer yet and I'm wondering should I take it early to fix this?
I have a 99 with auto trannie and my car really doesn't idle very smooth also.perhaps its the cam or its just the nature of the beast.when I take on the freeway and drive it rather hard (high speed only) the engine smoothens out some what. your car may need to be blown out--- get the carbon and gunk out of the engine . do you drive rather agressive or are you babying the car? :chevy :flag :flag (stars and stripes forever) :flag :flag :chevy

It is not a real smooth engine. For this kind of horsepower I would think you would need quite a few more tricks on the intake and valve timing to smooth it out.
You may check to see that your plug wires are attached firmly. I had the same problem on my 2001 and Cyl. #8 wire was loose causing a slight stumble at idle.
I have an '01 coupe with about 2K miles also, and it too has a little roughness at idle. Twice it has had what I would call a dead miss sitting at a light (the non-firing on one cylinder), but I have no intentions of taking it in to be looked at and I'm not going to worry about it. It runs fine otherwise. I also get a gurgling noise when starting the engine while cold which sounds like it is exhaust related. For the most part, it goes away after warm up. Do you experience this noise? :seeya

Re: Slight idle shake - Normal? (Jud Chapin)
No gurgle here but I do have the "shaking of the beast" at rest that others are talking about. As my 15 year old daughter says, "I love that sound". Dragon purr...
Normal.
My 99 camaro SS w/ls1 was a bit rougher then my 99 Vette w/ls1. I think it has to do with the camshaft profile. More spacifically, the lobe seperation angle.
I wouldn't lose any sleep over it...my '01 has had that shake since new, and it can't be running that bad since I cut a 13.06@106MPH tonight at E-Town with stock exhaust, stock intake and 2.73 rear gears..... :D :D :D
Thanks for all the feedback. I've owned the car 4 weeks, and probably am babying it alittle. It runs great though. My first Vette in 30+ years; don't know why I waited so long.
