Do you need X pipe

PS The best G's are sideways. Just my $.03 worth  :flag
The X-pipe doesn't really add much horsepower. It primarily equalizes the flow (pulses), and the stock systems already come with an "H" pipe, with different inside diameters depending on the year. The X-pipe is welded in place of the stock H-pipe, and has an interior diameter similar to the actual exhaust pipe -- it's sometimes called a crossover pipe also. If you have a muffler shop make one up for you, make it more of an X than an H -- the side to side flow is obviously smoother with an X shape. But it would probably be about the same price to just buy one and have them install it only.
What it does do is cut back on the "snap, crackle, and pop" on the overrun, and reduces what some people call the "motor boat" idle which is more noticeable without the pipe.
Don't do it for the horsepower, do it for the sound.
No problem.
I forgot to mention that you may want to try a new exhaust without the X pipe first. You can always install it later, but you may actually like a more "lumpy" idle sound (like a Harley), and more burbling on the overrun. It's also cheaper. :D
Take care.
I've put on B & B PRTs and want to put in an Exit 28 X pipe to smooth it out a bit. thanks

The X-pipe is the "cross-over" pipe. You can weld it in further forward, and have two cross-over pipes, but like the Bassani X-Pipe install instructions above, most people locate the X-pipe where the H-pipe was. More than one crossover is redundant, and as I pointed out in my first post above, the H-pipe has a smaller inside diameter and is pretty much useless (depending on your ID). All my two-cylinder Italian motorcycles had only one crossover in the exhaust -- worked pretty well.
Most people see 3 to 5 to maybe 7 extra horsepower from the X-pipe on your setup (intake and Corsa's), closer to 5 hp tops. That's about 1-2% and statistically insignificant -- a winter day will give you more performance, so will driving with half a tank of gas. Vstella has a lot of work on his motor, long tube headers, no cats, etc. -- his results will vary. I didn't get the impression from you that you were prepared to do that much to your car just yet. Remember, the cats are the most restrictive part of the exhaust, and the X-pipe is located after the restriction, so the power is already lost. Once you turn down the tap, it's hard to get the water flow back further down in the pipes.
And, yes, when you cut off the cats, you are violating emissions laws in all fifty states and voiding your OEM warranty (which is longer on the emissions portion of the car, BTW). If your car has the smaller pre-cats, you may also get trouble codes on the O2 sensors, if you take those out. Some folks use O2 simulators so the car still "thinks" it has cats. And, the installer who does the work for you may get uncomfortable with all of this (the Feds tend to go after the shop, not the customer), although the X-pipe after the cats is not a problem since it does'nt affect the emissions.
Hope this helps. :smash:

I just thought of two additional pieces of information to check out, under the CorvetteForum reviews section. Here are the two links:
http://www.corvetteforum.cc/reviews/...196&TopicID=15
This is the Corsa brand X-pipe, and it achieves, according to the review: "Horsepower increase?...Maybe 3-4 h.p."
Also see:
http://www.corvetteforum.cc/reviews/...180&TopicID=15
For the ProFlow X-pipe, which has an increase, according to porduct literature, of "6-8 Hp and 8-10 Tq."
I don't know what the Magnaflow Exhaust claims are for their pipe, but perhaps Shawn at LAPD can provide that information.
