For the first 5Min there is a tapping sound under the hood but as soon as the car warms up a little it gos a way.It happens only if the car is left standing 4-5 hours . Y does it happen ? ???????
Could be a lifter. Get a stethascope and check different parts ot the engine you should be able to tell pretty close to where it is comeing from. :flag
I have exactly the same problem - The dealer says don't worry about it, "they all do that". I suspect I'm just being blown off. I think it's a lifter, & will go back and make a pain out of myself until they fix it. Others I've talked to say that the tapping is not normal
The tapping I experience occurs only after the car has not been started for at least 24 hours (My C-5 is not an every day driver).
It goes away in less than five minutes (usually in two to three)
I know of one C5 that had a knocking sound on startup. It was due to carbon buildup in the combustion chamber. Same exact symptoms as yours. Went away after a few minutes.
The dealer performed a comnustion chamber cleaning which involves removing the spark plugs, and filling each chamber with a GM cleaning fluid. Let it sit overngiht, then run the engine to blow out the garbage. A oil change will also be necessary as it may become contaminated by the cleaner.
sounds like piston slap to me. GM has had a problem with low side piston to clyinder clearance. spec is .002 but Mine had .004.
GM has had issues with small pistons, and also wrong ring combination on both the LS1 and LS6 engines. They changes the rings and pistons on both for 2002.
I would tell your dealer that you are having piston slap noise and see what they say, Insist on having a GM rep listen to your concerns.
