Default Headlamp door problem

2000 model, Problem started today. When I turn the parking lamps on the headlamp doors open.. When the lamps are turned off and the doors close the left side motor continues to run for approx 4 seconds after the door is closed.

Does this sound like the "headlamp opening door actuator contol module" is failing???

It appears as there are no limit switches on the door assembly. I guess the module just applies power for a set period of time and assumes the door has had time to open or close.

Thanks for your thoughts and knowledge.

Nope, it is your plastic gear, it is stripped. Recommend you buy and install brass gear(s). About $40 each, or you can get a plastic gear for $14. Do a search.

Default More info

Thanks for the replys but let me restate my problem.. The headlamp doors will open and close OK except they open with ONLY the parking lamps turned on and when you turn them off they close fine but the left motor continues to run for 4 sec. after the door has closed..

I have also found that if I unplug the left motor the right door will not open when the parking lights are on but opens fine (as normal) when I turn the headlamps on.

These symptons are consistant and very repeatable.

Just tried this... if I unplug either headlamp motor the other motor will not raise the lamp on parking lamps only but will raise on headlamps on.

I feel the "motor run-on" is tied to this electrical problem as both started at exactly the same time... Thanks for listening...

Default HE's RIGHT

OldVetter gave you the right answer. The plastic teeth on the factory headlight motor gear gets chipped and cracked. This is an extremely common problem. The gears not catching correctly causes a timeout problem that is consistant with what you are experiencing. I had the exact problem, symptoms, that you are experiencing on my 2000 vert. You can replace the gears with the brass gears that are available through several vendors here on the forum plus numerous other suppliers on the net. Also there is a seller on the popular auction site that makes an excellent kit for the C5's. That's the route that I went because his kit seemed to have all that you could possible need to get the job done.

Default One more question please.

Thanks for all your help. You have convinced me the gears are the problem. It looks like the normal action is to keep the voltage up for a few seconds longer than it takes to close the doors and if all is good it just stalls the motor and eveyone is happy..

I understand that now....

Do you think my headlight doors could both open when ONLY the parking lights are on because of this bad gear????

Anyway I will fix one problem at a time............

THANKS............
