I would say this isn't a problem. In fact, I don't think it's a bearing either.

help with whining noise....
I hear it on acceleration (gets louder as I accelerate) and "whines" down as I let off the pedal. No noise (that I hear) at idle or when cruising and I take my foot off the pedal. (air/heat/radio are all off)
Any thoughts on this noise?

Whining problems:
Is it coming from the passenger side? If so it could be your wife,
I know vie had this problem on occasion, I usually tell her to sit down shut up and hang on!!!!

When my alt started to whine, it took a dump two days later. I had to drive and keep it above 2000rpm or it would die. You should change it soon. Autozone rebuilds with lifetime warranty are a good cheap buy. My $0.02.
