I bought my 2000FRC used. It had an aftermarket air filter system. There is no name on it. Let me describe it, going from manifold forward there is a plastic tube about 8inches long going to a larger plastic piece that flattens out a bit as it goes over the top of the radiator, then to a 6 inch long tube, to a plastic piece that splits in a "V" there are two air filters attached to that piece. The filters are cone shaped and I guess they are K&N's.
Can anyone identify this system, and is it any good. I was afraid that at speed in the rain water will be forced into the filter. Though I was told that the openings in the K&N are smaller than water drops.

Pics would really help identifying the System ,Its gonna be very hard to identify by not having pics .Put some pics up & I will give it my best shot It sounds Like the K & N System ,Is your piping that goes to your Filter go from 1 peice to 2 cone filters ?
From the description, it could be one of several after market intakes with the two filters at either end of the Y tube. There are some lesser expensive versions available on EBAY that use the same concept. Some use ABS plastic tube, some use metal tube. Some use K&N filters, some use copy cat filters. The system gets the majority of its air from the engine bay, unless the fog lights or front plate cover have been modified to more air intake. It's not considered a true "cold air intake" by most.
Whether it's "any good" depends on what others have who reply. Those that have them seem to like them. I think GM even offered the design as a GM accessory with C5 cars. I recall seeing similar in one of the old GM C5 accessory catalogs. Some say they create "air turbulence" into the intake. Most suggest using a hood seal to keep most of the water off the bumper/hood from getting to the filters. It probably doesn't produce any significant (if any) horsepower/torque. It looks good to those who have them.
There's other "better" systems if you want to spend the money and accept the claims of improvements. There's only a couple that people swear yield more horsepower/torque...VARARAM or HONKER.

Your filter's won't see significant water unless you've opened up your fog light surrounds...or drive through a stream. The small amount dripping down from a closed hood will never be a problem.
Thanks to all those that answered. I was most concerned with getting water in the system. The performance issue I will sort out when I get into the engine phase of my improvements.
I think you have a granatelli intake if the filters are red. If they're blue I'd say its a volant. I have the granatelli and really like it. Is this it?
