When I purchased my Z06 it already had a B&M shifter with the stock ****. It rattles like a SOB on heavy acceleration. I can prevent it by putting my hand on it. I have had the **** off twice and tightened it, the second time with some electrical tape around the threads. It seems to improve it for a while. I cannot tell if it is caused by the **** or if it is coming from the shaft. I was told it is happening because the stock **** was left on there. I like the stock ****, but am willing to replace if it fixes the problem. Suggestions?
If you have the original design solid lever B&M ("Ripper"?), they are prone to more vibrations/noise than the newer B&M rubber isolated version ("Sport"). Many of the after market shifters with solid one piece or two piece bolt together lever designs suffer from the same characteristics.
Try changing the **** out to see if that remedies the issue. Many times, that easy change will work.
I just installed a B&M "Sport" and so far I'm happy with it...of coarse I didn't have any complaints about the oem shifter since I shortened it 3/4" and added a HURST ****. The "Sport" has the same rubber isolated lever design as oem and shorter throws.
I put the b&m on my z a few months after i got my car. I drove it with both of them, and can really tell the difference between the two. The b&m is definetly louder. No problems at all with it or the car, just a little louder. I have a WCC aftermarket **** on mine too. Figured id put my .02 in. Yours is not the only one doing it.
