I makes a big difference, especially in the engine compartment. I have the entire exhaust system on my track car coated to keep as much heat out of the engine compartment and away from the tranny and differential as possible.

I know that JET HOT will coat just about whatever you want. They've done suspension coil springs, six blade mechanical fans, intake manifolds, etc for my cars and friends cars.
They will coat just the outside of pipes if that's what you specify, but it might affect the warranty. I'm not sure about HPC, CERMACHROME and other ceramic metallic vendors.
