Is this possible?
It is a system built to shift a manual SEQUENTIAL shifting gearbox by moving the shift lever using a pneumatic piston ....
Maybe I'm missing something ... but I just see no way for this to work with an automatic tranny like the 4L65E ....

It's an adaptation of the classic air shifter, and workw with sequential (SMG or motorcycle) transmissions. It's simply the wrong tool for the job.
The PCM controls both the LSx engine management functions AND on an automatic it controls the transmission. When you move the shift lever you are REQUESTING the PCM to make a shift ... it is the PCM that COMMANDS the transmission to shift. For example if you put the shift lever in the 1st gear position, but the car is doing 90 MPH, the PCM has software that prevents the tranny being commanded to select first gear.
If you could somehow install a paddle shift in the car, the problem is this .... currently the PCM gets a "position" signal that tells it what gear you want (D, R, 2, etc.) but a paddle shift sends a different signal ... either UP or DOWN ..... the PCM has no way to understand that. You'd have to build a "box" that effectively kept track of what gear the car is in (and either would have to get feedback from the gearbox to confirm it .. or you could end up with the "box" out of synch with the tranny) and then "emulated" the position sensor output. In other words, if the car is currently in first gear and you paddle an UP request, the box would send the PCM the signals that would make it appear the selector just moved from the 1 posiyion to the 2 position.
Of course all this would means modifying your shift selector so it could still work for PARK, REVERSE, and NEUTRAL with the other gear positions disabled. And then building the box and wiring it in.
Can it be done ???? Sure, anything is possible, but you are either gonna have to build it yourself, or convince a company that there is a market out there for this system. I kinda doubt there is much of a market, the vast majority of people who want direct control of gear selection buy a manual transmission. My g/f has a Pontiac Grand Prix with the paddles, and while it is fun to toy with once in a while, I know she's NEVER used the feature, and 99 percent of the time I leave the selector in DRIVE (instead of MANUAL which activates the paddles). When you select MANUAL the HUD adds the currently selected gear so you know which gear you are in at all times (it also displays it on the DIC too).
