Default LS2 Oil Pan

During a brainfart and stupid session recently, i found myself in need of a new oil pan for the 03Z. Also being a cheap azz, i didn't want to spend $700 for a new pan and couldn't see spending $350 for a used one piece pan. So after doing a search, i came across a thread in which Rodney@rpm transmissions ( free plug for ya' ) had installed a LS2 oilpan on his C5 and i ended up talking to him. Not only did he expel the benefits of the newer pan, but also turned me onto an associate of his for a used pan which was half the price of a used C5 pan. LS1 pan, 16 lbs and LS2 pan, 12 lbs. LS2 pan is also a thicker casting and no wings to obstruck header clearance. the only problem i had was i had to tap the left side flywheel cover bolt hole with a 6-1.00 mm tap.

Did you pull the engine or drop the cradle to change the pan?

i unbolted the upper control arms, shock tops, and popped the steering rod ends. also unbolted the brake lines, sway bar and removed the front spring. i supported the engine under the bell housing and dropped the cradle a few inches, and had all the clearance need to swap out the pan.

that's awesome, good to know, but what's with the oil temp sender on the pan? It's in my block (to the best of my memory).

I wonder if this would bolt in to an engine running an oil cooler at the temp block.

The LS1 uses separate sensors for oil lvl and oil temp, the LS2 uses a combined sensor.

the pan came bare, no sensors or anything, not even the drain plug. i just took everything off the old pan and installed in the new pan and plugged in all the electrics. the only thing missing are the wings that were screwing up the removal/install of the headers. for some reason, the pictures are not coming out in the first post.

this is from the scoggins-dickey website

12594603GM Factory Replacement Parts 2007 L92 Oil Pan$186.12
12581810GM Factory Replacement Parts C6 LS2 Oil Pan Kit$285.43
12561828GM Factory Replacement Parts Oil Pan, 2002-03 LS6 Corvette$688.37

i got the pan, dip stick and tube, and shipped to me for $200. if you can enlarge the one pic of the sticker on the bottom of the pan, it has the part number on it. i looked up the part number before i installed the pan and it looked like the correct pan to me. needless to say, i am pleased with it.
