Default Click sound from StopTech Big Brake kit

Hi

Yesterday I got my C5 back from having StopTech big brake mounted on my car. It was the kit with 14" rotors, 6 piston caliper front, 4 piston rear, slotted rotors. This was installed by a GM mechanic. My first impression driving home was that something was wrong. When I brake hard i get a kind of click sound that follows the speed of the wheel togehter with a small virbration. It feels like it is from all four corners and the sound is a little mechanic. I took all 4 wheels of and there is nothing rubbing and there is enough clearance to both lower ball joint and wheels. Everything looks to be ok.

After a call to a StopTech technician, he told me that the most likely reason is that i hear sound from the slottes in the rotors and the sound will go away after i bed in the brakes. It was raining yesterday so I did not get the chance to follow the bed in procedure.

Have any of you had experience with sound from slotted rotors like this. I feel that the sound is to high to go away with just bedding the brakes. Is there anything else I should check?

I don't have an answer for your issue specifically, but when I put on my slotted rotors they didn't make the noise you mentioned. They scraped a bit more until the plating came off the firepath during the bed-in, but after that they braked very smooth. This was on stock calipers, HPS pads though.

While you had the car in the air did you rotate the wheels by hand to see if you could hear the noise? It sure sounds like you are hitting the wheels probably near where the spokes join the rim.

#1 mistake is taking your car to the dealer to have anything installed, especially anything aftermarket.

Default There is no noise when turning

Than you for your reply: When rotating the wheels there is no sound at all. Only when braking hard.

About installing it at the dealer. The mechanic at the dealer is a Corvette owner and competent. I will just make shore that it is not what StopTech told me to just bed in the brakes before I complainant.

I haven't had any trouble like that from mine, but I have CarboTech street and track pads. I've never tried the pads that come with the StopTech BBK.

After a track session, there is a tinking sound coming from the rotors. I think the friction rings and hats are readjusting as they cool.
