Ok,got my car apart got the old cam out now i need to choose a cam.i've narrowed it down to 3cams LG G5x-2 G5x-3 or TEXAS SPEED majik stick v-3. this car will be driven on a regular basis and some road trips so i dont need anything to outrageous. 1st question:anyone running these cams pass emissions with some tunning? 2nd do these cams need to be degreed or just lined up dot to dot? also anyone go with G5x-3 and wish they went smaller? i just dont want to overcam the engine and take the fun out of it. I'll also be using patriot stageII ls6 heads milled to 59cc so i'm hoping i wont have any clearance issues.
they use original GM 243 castings. I'm hoping to get 410-425rwhp.
I'm also installing the following:
ls6 intake
longtube headers
hi-flo cats
I've got the G5X3 on a 112LSA and I love it, I daily drive my car in the summer and I dont have any complaints. The cam has a really big lope, and the car will shake like an old muscle car at a stoplight, but then again thats one of my favorite things about it. I have stock LS1 heads that are milled to 59cc and I had to flycut my pistons though. If you go with a LG cam ask them when you order it about clearance, they also have a tool to do the flycutting yourself, and always check PTV before final re-assembly.
Dont know if they will pass emissions I dont have to worry about that. and yes the G5X3 will line up dot to dot, it has a key built into it for installing the cam sprocket.
An LG G5x-2 G5x-3 or TEXAS SPEED majik stick v-3 pass emissions? Not if it's a sniffer test. Not a chance in hell.
A 224 duration, or 228 on a 114 LSA might pass with tuning.
Depends on the standards you have to pass. Last month I passed the test here in the Denver area with a large LPE cam. For me rasing the temp of the engine cut the unburned fuel in half and I passed. And be sure to heat those cats up before a sniffer test. And, Yes, a good tune will help. Hopefully someone from your state will have experience. Or maybe contact a local tuner and see what their experience is...
