I tried a search but couldn't find anything. I need to take mine out. Do I have to remove the fender well?

Hey Marc,
For the C5..you take the passenger wheel off. Next is the panel in the back of the fender well. This panel has about 8 screws and one under the car on the fram. Next take the cove insert off. Now you can see the PCM.
With the batt disconnected remove the two plugs, there is two screws in both of them. Unplug the the plugs. Now remove the bracket that holds the PCM in place. DO NOT REMOVE the rear screw on the bracket just loosen it. Now pry the bracket away from the PCM and the TAC module. Pry on the PCM and Tac to break it free from the bracket.
Good luck

Disconnect the battery first before starting the removal.

For whatever your reasons are to require removal of the PCM, I hope you know that you simply cannot replace it with another one. It has to be programmed with a Tech 2 and there is no way to get around this. Also, due to security in there, the car won't run till that reprogramming is done.

Hmm, well this is a differant pcm that is going in. It has my program and VIN flashed in to it. I was told I had to do a BCM relink or something like that but since I have EFI Live it shouldn't be a problem.

I know there is a secret password shared between the PCM and BCM to assist in preventing theft of the car by replacing either of those two computers. There is a specific procedure to get it to learn the new passwords but normally accomplished by a Tech 2. I don't know if ElfLive will handle this or not.

The PCM tends to get stuck in there pretty good. Don't worry about breaking the bracket, it's only $12 at the dealership (ask me how I know ).
