Default Do I need an entire new top?

The rear window fell out of my vert and I asked the guy to glue it back in, he told me I need an entire new top and was ready to charge 1250 for it

I glued my own back in by stuffing the rear waterfall area with comforters to hold the window in place and gluing with Black RTV silicone.

I cleaned the window and top attaching areas with rubbing alcohol first. Seems to be in super tight and has held up fine.

Yes you can!

It comes from the factory that way and you can re-glue it back in!

You'll want to get some strong compatable glued and support it when you put it back in and make sure you clean the surfaces real good before adhesing the glue and the window!

Thanks,Matt

No it wont. Its a pain in the neck to clean up, dont get any on the fabric top or have too much ooze out. I used about a 1/4 inch bead of silicone close to the inside of the window channel, this insured the silicone wouldn't ooze out passed the fabric top. I applied the silicone from the out side after the top was firmly held in place via the comforters. I lifted the fabric top up around the window and ran the bead that way. I used the thinnest part of the applicator tube to run as much of a controlled bead as possible.

Once the top was glued in and cured (two days later when I did it) I ran a bead of silicone on the inside where the glass meets the top, kind of bonding the two together. This last part probably wasn't necessary but it is invisible and gives some extra strength and grip.

I did a good deal of research before trying this and black RTV seems to be what held up best for most people with this common problem. You wouldn't be able to tell my top inst 100% OE.
