Default Help identifying this new issue...

I have a Y2K Vert with A4 tranny. It has 80K on clock. Recently, I put new tires on the rear stepping up from 295 x 30 Yokohamas to 305 x 30 Pirellis. Here is the problem.

Travelling at highway speeds, I can feel an oscillating vibration that seems to be in the drive train, I think. By oscillating I mean it comes and goes at a regular interval. It seems to be worse in a righthand curve than a left. Actually, the vibration is unnoticable when in a lefthand turn at speeds. (Nothing is noticed at slow speed.) As for how I feel it...it seems to be a seat of the pants feel. I may also detect it through the steering wheel and accellerator..it is hard to say since it is faint..yet annoying.

Any thoughts? Wheel bearing? Tranny? Rear end? Could those Pirellis be causing something like this? Never felt it before?

I cannot say that it is something you can hear...but, I am hard of hearing..so...who knows? Still, I don't think anyone can hear it since I have had others ride with me and they can't seem to hear anything.

I have learned there are no small problems when it comes to this car. So, I do not want to ignore it and find that I screwed up something really bad that could have been fixed had I taken action sooner.

Any ideas will be appreciated. I may just have to take it to the Stealership and have them try to figure it out?

I have the same thing and have a feeling it's somewhere in the torque tube... I'll find out this winter when everything is torn down and re-built...

I would say left front wheel bearing, when going around a right hand curve the weight and pressure of the car is transfered to the left side of the car.

I had the same thing in an S-10 one time. It was confusing because it was oscillating like you said, but not really inherent to the speed I was driving. It turned out to be one of the tires was not balanced correctly. Did you have yours done on a Roadforce balancer? It makes a difference. Run it back by there and tell them what it's doing, at least it shouldn't cost you anything.

Hummm... I do not know. The folks who did the tires are supposed to be best in town. I'll call them and verify. It is odd that it seemed to start after the new tires were installed.

Thanks. I am still gonna have the wheel bearing checked. Appreciate these comments too..
