Default Speedometer MPH Indicator Light

Have 01 Vert and noticed the MPH or KM/H indicator light changing from bright to dim (appears random). Compared with battery voltage which was steady. Wondering if this is tied to the light sensor that auto turns on and off the lights via the twilight feature? Maybe it is adjusting the indicator brightness for level of light? However did not notice the radio or AC controls changing....any ideas on cause of this or if others have seen this. Thanks.

You might be onto something!

I'd adjust the twighlight and see if it helps if not then some surge is making it happen! But I dunno which!

Thanks,Matt

Mine seems to do this all the time too. I thought it was the interior light sensor affecting the dash brightness so I haven't looked into it further.

You are right, the interior gage light sensor is on the dash (DIC) and changes the brightness of the MPH depending on ambient light.

Yeah, it's the sensor right above the DIC buttons...you can cover it with your finger and the MPH indicator should become brighter.

Its brightness is proportional to the light coming into the DIC sensor, if you shine a light into the sensor the MPH will get brighter and vice versa.

It does make you scratch your head while going down the road and it changes intensity.

Great feedback folks. Thank you.

I will check it out tomorrow. Glad to know I probably do not have a problem or loose connections etc..

I think its the other way around. If you cover the sensor, then the resulting lighting gets dimmer, to have less brightness at night. Mine has an issue right now with that same sensor. Its probably a cold soldering joint on it as it has its own mind during the day and touching the buttons, pushing on the sensor area and so on, will make the indicators (Radio and HVAC) come back to normal day-time brightness. That sensor sends its information to the BCM which in turn, controls the brightness of the indicators. At night, the BCM receives its information from the interior direct control method for the lighting, after the headlamps turn on via either the headlamp switch or the twighlight sentinel.
