Default C5 Brake life?

I've got right at 31,000 miles on my CORVETTE at this point. I'm noticing some vibration from hard braking on steep downgrades and from speeds above 100. I dimly recall replacing brake pads on previous cars at about this mileage level.

Looking at the rotors, front and rear, there's a lot of scoring on them. While I'm not that much of a "high speed" kinda guy (a little bit everyday, maybe), I don't know if the previous owner "rode her hard, and put her away wet" or not?

I've pretty much committed to a brake redo. I've ordered the new cross-drilled AC Delco Rotor upgrade from Eckler's, because I think my current ones are shot, and these "look cool", what with the vent holes and all.

I'm just wondering if I'm a "premature brake upgrader"?

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I hope those drilled rotors last as long!

IMO
If your disks are scored (front and rear? or just front? ) you are way past the need for brake work. Mileage can be very decieving. I have had pads go out in 2000 miles. It just depends how much really hard stopping the car has done. But scored disks only tell you one thing. Bad, or no pads.

Actually, if you read Ken's newsletter about service, you will see that GM says minor scoring is not a problem and does not require resurfacing unless the scores are deeper than 1.5mm. How are the pads looking? At any rate, 31,000 miles on a set of pads on a car like this is pretty reasonable.

The drilled rotors look ! I plan to get them when it's time to swap out the stockers. Let us know what you think of the performance.

I'll keep you posted. Eckler's said I should receive them by Wednesday or Thursday next week. I intend to have them installed the next day.
