I was just looking through my owners manual and read that there was a recommended weight limit for the vette on the back of the driver's side door.
To my surprise, the passenger plus cargo weight limit was something like 399 pounds! Is it really bad for the car in some way to have 2 220 pound people in the car? What about luggage?
Anyway, I thought this was strange (I'd think it would be closer to 800 lbs) but wanted to see if maybe I wasn't understanding it right.
You're right. I went and checked mine out...WTF? I know I've had more than 399 Lbs. in the car...who hasn't? I'd like to know the reason for this as well. The car certainly isn't unsafe at that amount. Maybe it's a warranty issue...GM covering themselves when a tranny breaks or something...anyone?
BTW, I see you're in La Jolla...nice! I love SanD. Did they ever finish the road work on Ardath? Last time I was there it took an hour to get from the 5 to Torrey Pines.
Good, I'm not crazy and it really does say 399 lbs. That means, if I weigh about 215, my passenger+luggage has to be under 184. I'll maybe have to keep a scale with me...it'll be like owning a cessna :)
Yep, I moved to La Jolla about a year ago. There hasn't been any steady construction on Ardath since I moved here. This is a very good thing, since I have to take Torrey Pines to and from work every day.
Jeez....I had no idea. I've had way more than that in my car. Probably close to 800 lbs. It's definitely slower with that much weight, but it didn't seem like it was a problem for the car. I wonder why the limit is so low.
Maybe it's an EPA thing. Maybe by rating it low, they get into a more favorable MPG bracket, or maybe it is for crash testing purposes -- again, maybe a lower weight gets it into a less-restrictive class?
