Can anyone tell me what the sound of a rear sway bar would make if it was not lubricated or greased? I just picked up a 97 coupe that looks like the previous owner may have at least replaced the end links on the rear sway bar- perhaps the sway bar itself- it makes a clunk noise and somewhat of a grunt when you put it into a turn??? there is no tranny noise nor is there any whine from the rear (the car only has 40K miles on it) everything going in a straight line is quiet at any speed, seems like only when you turn at a lower speed do you hear it...
other then that- what a great machine...6 speed artic white with firethorn interior!!

Right Side:
end link: not plastic like early ones...
is there supposed to be something between the spring and that bolt? looks like a large gap to me...
thanks- I will check both out...it also seems like the noise is there when I back up as well...I got out and physically rolled the rear tires forward and backward and I can hear a chatter or clicking sound??? it also makes this sound to some degree if the car bucks a little- you know like low RPM in a low gear...I hear the clicking...
the car only has 40K miles...about 4K miles a year over 10 years or so...sat for weeks at a time...I am thinking maybe I should replace the fluid in the rear as well...strange how it is only going slow or turning that makes the noise...
Going to the speed shop next week for a full checkup and diff change with Royal Purple...
Yes - I would change the fluid in the diff - sounds like your diff is chattering based on your description of the noises.
Here is a link to a few pictures that I have that might help you when you change the fluid - I used Red Line gear oil in my diff - 2 quarts are needed.
