Passenger Door Rattle
Sounds like a glass rattle but when the door is closed everything seems tight. Noise starts above 35 MPH and continues until around 70 MPH then stops. May have something to do with wind/pressure but I am not sure. Checked the Bose emblem it is tight. Noise seems to be coming from the front pillar area.
It is a 99 FRC with 33,000 miles and started making the noise at 30,000. The weather is cooler here in PA so it may be a factor.
Need to know where other found loose nuts/screw and which ones (locations). It may be coming from another area around the door and transmiting through the body some how. Any information will be welcome as it is driving me nuts!
Okay thanks in advance for any information.
I remain respectfully,
Scottie
Anyway, mine was easily repaired once home. To get to the speaker and amp assemblies, the door panel must be removed. To save yourself the possibilty of creating more rattles and loose door panels - go to an automotive store and buy a door panel removal tool. I got mine at Advance for like $8.00. It looks like a BBQ grill fork tool with flat screwdriver heads for tines. Makes the job easier and much safer for the plastic rivet like things that hold the panel in place.
Once inside, the speaker and amp assemblies are easily locatable. To get good access to them, you may need to roll the window up - not to touch the units as much as get behind them for tapping, etc to test for rattles. In my case, I put in some music with really low frequency information and cranked it up - bingo, rattle discovered, screws tightend - end of problem. Door panel comes off and goes back on a little tricky in that you have t release all the clips with the removal tool and then (with pretty good effort) lift the panel up and out as there are clips/grips along the top to keep the window brushes tight against the glass. Reinstalling requires a bit of effort that gets into that "am I pressing too hard - about to break something?" area.
The whole process takes about 30-45 minutes if you're being super careful and fearful of breaking stuff. Once you've done it though, it becomes a 10 minute process if needed again.
Hope this helps and I hope you get your rattle stopped.
HAPPY THANKGIVING!!!
