My Twilight mode keeps my headlights from coming on 50% of the time. When I start up in the dark, and release the parking break, my headlights are supposed to come on. 50% of the time, only my fog lights will come on. In this condition, I cannot even turn the headlights on manully with the switch.
What I have learned to do, is to pull up the options menu, and select Twilight Mode. I press RESET to turn it off, then press REST a second time to turn it back on. At that time, the headlights pop up!
There are possible two causes and both may be involved. The headlamp switch itself will cause some of those issues. Also the headlamp controller. Do yourself a favor and the next time you turn them on with the headlamp switch and they do not come up, look to see if they are on, yet down. If that is the case, replace the headlamp controller. Its possible too the the light sensor on top of the dash may have failed but its a rather remote cause.

Does anyone know why this is?
Is there a fix for it?
Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks,

is there any light hitting the car when you want the lights to come on?

I'm having the same problem, but if I release the hand break before starting the car the headlights do pop up. I did notice that my lights do turn on with the hand break engaged but they just don't pop up.

So on your's, turn on the lights manually. If they turn on but don't raise, replace the headlamp controller.
My car (2001 Coupe) has the same problem. The lights come on but do not pop up until they have been turned off and then back on. I get the same problem whether using the Twilight Sentinel or the manual switch. It is intermitent and gets progressively worse with time. I had the same problem when the car was under warranty and the dealer repaired it (on the third try.) The paperwork only said 'repair electical problem' but did not show any parts. The problem has now returned two years later. I am planning to check all the grounds as soon as I have time. If that doesn't work I am going to replace the controller.
Great! Let me know wha tyou find. Mine did it again tonight. At least I know how to disable/re-enable twilight to get my lights working! I just can't let my wife drive it at night. That is too complicated for her to understand...
I suggested the headlamp controller as I myself had these same issues on my high-mileage '99, about a year ago, maybe a year and a half. At first, my lights would intermittently come on at night, since I work night-shift. Sometimes they would and sometimes not. Disabling the twilight sentinel then turning on the headlamp switch they would come on and up, but they should have come on and up anyway even without
turning off the sentinel.
I replaced the headlamp switch which got rid of the having to turn off the twilight sentinel but it did not get rid of the lamps coming on and staying down. I replaced the controller and its all working fine ever since. I bought the controller as a chance off ebay and it worked out just fine.
I stopped using mine because every time I started car in garage the lights would pop up and turn on. I figured it was more wear and tear on the nylon gears then needed. Also going thru tunnels under overpasses (in slow moving traffic) I figured who needs it.
