Default Getting McLeod Twin need some input please!!

Well, the clutch I have in my car right now is done. All I know is its a RAM HD, and IMO the driveability is horrible. It was in the car when I bought it so Ive dealt with it until now. I dont think it's a twin disk, because it chatters and shakes bad when taking off from a dead stop. Anyways, im looking at getting a new Twin Disk and have liked what I have seen with the Mcleod. Im thinking of getting it from Summit and was wondering from the 2 in the link I have listed which one should I go with? Also should I get it with a steel or aluminum flywheel. Or is there another model I should be looking at. Im hoping to buy this asap, maybe by tomorrow so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

PS...This is for my 99 FRC.

Good question...my time is coming also. My old BB days I liked the twin disc's cause of the abuse they would take, you could launch a little smoothier. Like the Al. flywheel option. Didn't see any weights mentioned.

If your sold on the McLeod... It looks like the same clutch, just steel vs aluminum. If that is right then $88 for 4-5 lbs. $ = HP = ET. Your choice.

My $0.02

The steel will be more driveable and also better suited for drag racing. The aluminum better for road racing. I have used both.

IMO, For the cost of that clutch you would be much better off going with a Tex single or double depending on your power level and what you plan to do with the car. Also single disk clutches are more driveable than twin disks.

ummmm.. what???

a twin disk is MUCH more forgiving because you can go with semi aggressive disks to hold much more power rather than having to go with a VERY aggressive single disk to hold the power. I daily drove my mcleod street twin in my 408 EVERY DAY, rain or snow, you name it i drove in it.

a twin set up nice for the driving styles will drive just like a stock clutch. Mine get tempermental sometimes but i have the kevlar disks that get really really grabby when i heat them up.

textralia single drives like stock. but i have had 2 buddies get them and not have them hold. 1 was a stroker vette, other was a turbo'd Trans am pushing 800 HP on low boost. Totally depends on what is done to the car and your goals with it.

i would never get anything besides a twin disk. they last ALOT longer (mine has at least) and can take any amount of abuse. not to mention you can rebuild mcleods for 500 dollars back to factory spec and have a brand new clutch.

Well I just ordered the clutch with a steel flywheel. I've had a lightweigh aluminum flywheel in my Evo before and I hated it, it was hard to launch the car. For road racing or autox, obviously it would have been great but im not into that, im into drag racing.

Well my clutch came in Monday, and I got a Centerforce TOB free from Summit (normally $80) because when you order the clutch it says its included and when it arrived there was no TOB so we called to ask and they sent me one. It also came with the slave cylinder. Were going to tear the car apart on Friday and if we dont finish we'll just finish it up on Sat. Are there any tricks or things I should know when installing it, or is it like any other clutch?

Hereit is!!
