The B&M Ripper you mention is the old model. You want the new B&M Sport shifter. I have it and like it. 1/3 shorter throws, no noise or rattles, high quality, easy install. It has no springs like the stock shifter. Don't need them.
You should expect some higher shift effort and some notchyness due to the lower mechanical advantage. This is common with all short shifters. I now appreciate the more direct mechanical feel. It seems more precise.
