I received the decision of the BBB arbitrator on my 2001 Z06 oil burner case & was awarded a buyback or a new 2002 Z06 for free. I want to thank everyone on the forum for their help & support. The arbitrator ruled the failed replacement rings & the repair history would reduce the value of my car & he ruled against GM being allowed to replace the engine. My wife & I are leaning towards doing the buyback, due to the GM area manager & the legal department putting us through this hearing & their refusal to do a trade-up after the new rings failed. The people I dealt with at Connell Chevrolet were great. I don't have to sign a confiedentiality agreement with GM, but the hearing arbitrator would not allow any evidence from other Corvette owners with oil consumption issues to be entered as evidence, because it wasn't directly involved in my case.

Drive it like you stole it until you turn it in! I had to do a cooldown lap around the block before turning mine in so the brakes and clutch did not smell so much, heh.
Congrats everything worked out in your favor, way to go!
Get another Z.
BTW: c5vetteman, dialup guys could not survivie here without turning off the graphics, so it's not the issue you might think. I do however, turn off my sig if I post to my own thread or re-post another reply.
I would recommend another Z as well. Any car manufacturer is going to have problems. You'll never completely get away from it. I remember the recall on the 911TT they had a few months ago because of a fuel line problem that would result in the car catching on fire!!!! At least your issue wouldn't literally kill you. YIKES! Good luck with whatever you decide.
BTW, if you get a new Z, try and get R8C. Adam is 'da MAN!
Sounds good. I was not that impressed with the GM buyback program when it was explained the charge you the differance between the MSRPs plus a usage fee based
on miles, plus taxes etc. Go for the 2002 Z06 for free and toss them the keys.
The new rings were on order for mine when the engine overdosed on flash flood water and self destructed.
Dick--
The buyback program is actually very fair. What they did in my case was to establish (from documentation supplied to the BBB) that the oil consumption started at 900 miles (I had 13,000 miles at the time of the hearing) & they charged me a total of $351.63 for depreciation.

You would be a fool not to take the '02 Z. 3K miles since I did the first oil change and not a drop of oil used! - Much quicker and handles MUCH better than a '01!
Hi Edward--
I'm going to wait until 2003 Z06's come out & then I'll either buy a 2002 or 2003, depending on what improvements are made on power, etc. I'm going to get something on a temporary basis to drive until then.
