Default Tensioner Pulley

Is there a tensioner pulley on a C5 to remove the serpentine belt? If so, where is it?

Front of Engine Passenger side, need a 15 mm wrench or socket to disengage it. Push toward Drivers side to slack the belt.

That is a great drawing showing the routing of the serpentine belt. I will save that one for future reference. The drawing I have is much smaller. Thanks!

Use a longer wrench and it's easy. I use a breaker bar.

Get a wrench or socket/ratchet that fits on the bolt going through the pulley next to the arrow and push in the direction of the arrow. Pulley will swing and release tension on the belt. You can then slide off the pulley (this is easier with a socket).

You can also use a "cheater" which involves putting two wrenches together by meshing the open in box end together in such a way that they lock and make one long wrench. Just be careful. The right size pipe over the end of wrench works too.

However this should not be that hard to move unless something wrong with the pulley. Not that much tension.

Is that the pulley that makes all the squealiing sounds after a few thousand miles? Did Chevy re-enigneer it to fix the bearing lubrication issues?

That one does cause the squealing as well as the one on the AC. It can be belts sometimes. As for a design change... not sure

There should also be a drawing on the fender of the engine bay showing the routing and the tensioner!

I know mine does.

Thanks,Matt

Oh, I thought that was the AC tensioner too. Guess I better take a look under my hood. TP
