Default L.A.P.D. Tunnel Insulation

Has anybody installed the L.A.P.D. Corvette Tunnel Insulation ($350)? Is it worth the money? Is the installation difficult?

I don't know which one you are talking about, they don't list any on their site for $350.

I did buy their power duct for $169 and I am very happy with that.

I think they are a good idea - however 350.00 is too dayum expensive!

The heat usually doesnt get on my nerves until you put some sticks on gum in your console and go drive for a while then try to eat'em  - now thats when things get messy!!

Hmmmm....I don't know if I want this. The heat can be really annoying in the summer. It's like sitting next to a furnace. But it the fall it's not that bad. Lets you run with the windows down, and not get cold. I think I may have to go for it though.

You are absolutely right. If I leave keys in the console, especially in the summer, after driving for an hour or so they get really hot. For this reason, I avoid storing any electronic device or audiotapes in the consol. Where did you get your Koolmat Heatmaster?

Bparker
The use of the “cup holder” is a problem. Anything that is placed there, that needs to be kept cold, like a soda or water, turns hot after a while.

Absolutely right! It is like you are sitting next to a furnace! I’m quite tall, 6’5, and the side of my right knee almost always touches the drive shaft tunnel. It gets uncomfortable really fast, especially in the summer. The A/C also is working overtime because of the amount of heat generated.

If JIM50 paid $330 for his heat shield, then $350 that L.A.P.D. is asking is at the same price level. I don’t think that I can find a similar product, that works good, any cheaper.

I would still like to hear from someone that installed the L.A.P.D. heat shield. Don’t want to spend that amount of cash on something that doesn’t work.

I have it and it was installed. Seemed like a good idea. Hard to say whether this mod took the temperature down as I also have dynamat on the interior. It is a good piece and fits nicely behind the center pipes. My 2 cents. Don't know if I have helped at all.

The real scoop is... GM determined that the average Corvette owner was in their mid to late 40s, early fifties and heavy coffee drinkers and enjoyed stopping at their local Starbucks for their morning coffee on their way to work.

So at the last minute they designed the cup holder, hence the bad design. But designed specifically for the coffee drinkers. It's ingenious really. It will hold your coffee and keep it piping hot.

Way to go GM!
:D    :yesnod: :smash:

I got it! It's not a design fault, it's a feature!

Koolmat makes this piece. I got mine from Brian Marks at http://www.verticalstores.com/ before LAPD was carrying it - similarly ridiculous price, but that is not the vendor's fault.

I put it on with the TTS headers and C&L high-flow cats to cut down on noise and heat. Piece of cake to put on, and it works.
