Default Whos got a 382 stroker??

Would like some feedback from any of you who has built a 382 stroker for your C5. What kind of RWHP and TQ where they producing. How much for the rotating assembly? With or w/o LS6 heads.

Thanks

I don't have one but internetracerssupply.com sells a 382 stroker kit for around $4,000

Anyone that has a stock crank and rods etc laying around from a stroker buildup or such, I may be interested in taking them off your hands. Shoot me an email.

Any HP #'s??

I'll let you know about the crank/rods/piston leftovers. I actually have a few LS1 engines.

I've seen claims in the 100hp+ range same with the torque (since no one else will answer)

I researched the news groups, and the f-body guys that were doing the 382 strokers were getting on average 410/410 rear wheel out of them, with heads and cam, back in mid 1999.

Todays head porting technology is better, so you mabey you would see something like 430rwhp/415rwtq.

You just dont see many going the stock bore, stroked route much anymore.

Best people to ask would be ARE or MTI about where they think power would fall today with one.

I hope I would expect more then 440 RWHP! Those numbers you stated are where most of us are with bolt on head/cam combos. I really want to build a 422 but plan on buying a 04'. I just need a little more to hold me over until then. I am bored with the head/cam package. I figured that the 382 would be the next upgrade without spending $ 9,000++. Addicted to HP real bad!!

9d9ls1. Im sure a tuner today could get you there using a 382 stroker. Would probably depend on head cam combo.

One major key to competition power is unshrouding the valves, and quick accelleration. This is why an all bore will outperform a similar, and even slightly more displaced stroker.

Pure stroking using the stock bore helps displacement and torque, but you sacrafice flow, and quickrevving when you dont bore.

382's were the rave a few years back, because boring more the .010 over meant sleeving, and no one was doing that very successfully.

Today they have resleeving down pat thus, the super bore/strokers.

Like kewlbrz said.

Also, don't compare AB or Stroker peak HP #'s to H/C. The powerband is much fatter for a 382/388, whereas a H/C is peakier for a shorter duration and lower low rpm TQ.

I had an MTI 383 stroker in my 99 C5.

It put down 426.7RWHP in early 1999. This was one of the "earlier" 383s, and headwork has gone a LONG way since that car was built. The newer MTI 383s are putting out 450-460RWHP now.

The entire turnkey package (the car was 100% stock driven from the dealer) was under $15k including tax/installation.

I have no idea what current pricing is (Had a Whipple Blower droppedon a 6.0L GMC recently though :)), but I am sure MTI would be more than willing to give you a price quote.

Wow, you got a little higher than the norm.
This is a f-body that has less power loss to the rear wheels.
http://www.motorsporttech.com/motors/ls1dyno.html

450-460rwhp would be a lofty goal for a stage II Heads/Cam/Headers 383 stroker.
Underdrive pully? Programming? Other mods?

Who has made these numbers in a C5? Or F-body? And what are the total mods?

thanks

I don't think so. A proper 383 H/C should have no problem putting down those numbers these days. It would have to be a result in conjunction with all of the bolt-ons and good computer tuning.

That graph you are showing was an f-body built before my car. My car was middle of the pack then (early 1999) with most cars in the 415-430rwhp.

My car had the following:

383 Stroker (includes heads/cam)
MTI air intake (this one looked like the proflo)
TPIS headers (stock cats)
B&B Sport exhaust
*stock* ECU programming
I forget what cam my car had (This was 4 or 5 cars ago), but it was mild.
My car backed up its numbers with an 11.47 @ 122.8 1/4 mile.

Call MTI and have them send you some dynos of more recent 383 strokers. Nineball might have some graphs around he can refer you to. MTI has put out 450-460RWHP 383 Stroker cars.

I would think that if you made that kind of power back in 99 that it should be possible to produce over 450-460 RWHP now! Back then you didn't have the LS6 head and intake manifold available. Also camshafts have come a long way. Do any of you have a current dyno pull with a "later" 383 motor? Very curious to know the torque numbers and where all the power is located in the power band.

I currently have a head/cam car and would like to look at the upgrade as worth while. I don't feel like "investing" into a 422 because of the cost for sleeving and associated components. The 383 is an easier option right now. I plan on upgrading to an 04' when the time comes. I would like to see my car in the low 11's with a 125+ mph. I think another 50-60 hp over what I have would do it no problem.

I also would prefere to purchase all the components myself to assembly. I don't want to buy a pre-assembled shortblock. Does Lunati have a kit?

:seeya

oldsetup on another car. cost was STEEP awhile ago. Very torquey and very very streetable. Actaully a street dominator.
If I were to do it all over again. I would do and all bore 383. that would leave the option of doing a 422 or 427 later, just by dropping in a new crank. I think ARE is going to start selling some of the blocks soon. Around $2200 for a resleeved LS1. Then you just need new pistons and you are good to go. Later on drop in a 4.00 or 4.125 crank and MIGHTY MOUSE lives!!
