So I bought a car cover and don't feel like cutting a hole in it. I will be getting satellite radio soon enough so I feel it's best to just remove the antenna from the car. The question is, how do I do that? I removed the rubber around the bottom, but appears to be firmly held in place. I don't want to break anything seeing this is the second day owning my vette! :-)
Per past discussions, you have to access the oem fixed mast or electric antenna assembly through a tail light hole after removal of same.
If you have a fixed mast oem antenna, you can simply unscrew the oem long mast from the threaded base. If you have an oem electric antenna, it should stay collapsed until you turn on the radio. Some have used small toggle switches to keep the oem electric antenna collapsed while playing CDs.
I have an '04 Z16 and keep it covered in my shop. I simply unscrew the fixed mast (now a "shorty" from R-D RACING) and place a small vinyl cap over the threads to protect the cover from damage.
Here's a current similar antenna discussion... http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1882687
