Default Third Brake Light.

Hello, whilst over in the States recently we went to the Moultrie swap meet and picked up an Ecklers catalogue. Flicking through the pages one evening I noticed a "third brake light" flasher unit that simply clips into the wiring for the brake light, causing the light to flash quickly rather than illuminate pemanently whilst braking. This would be interesting, I thought, so subsequently I ordered one. My question is, how do you actually get to the rear of the "third brake light" to actually fit the unit? Has anyone fitted one of these units? Whats your thoughts?

Remove the license plate frame and go in through there. While it's open, vacuum all the dirt out of there.

Just got back from London. Did see one red C5.

Where did you get the flasher unit?

The shop manual says that you get to the third stoplight by going through one of the inner brakelights.

Here is the procedure:

Document ID# 219680
2000 Chevrolet/Geo Corvette

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

High Mounted Stop Lamp Replacement
Removal Procedure
The high mount stop lamp is illuminated by a Light Emitting Diode (LED). The lamp and diode are serviced as an assembly.

Remove one of the inner tail lamps. Refer to Tail Lamp Replacement . Access the high-mounted stop lamp through the tail lamp opening.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the stop lamp.

Remove the screws retaining the stop lamp to the rear fascia.
Remove the stop lamp from the vehicle through the tail lamp opening.
Installation Procedure

Install the high-mounted stop lamp into position inside the rear fascia.
Loosely install the stop lamp mounting screws.

Notice
Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Align the stop lamp to the rear fascia, then press and hold the lamp to the fascia for flushness. Tighten
Tighten the high-mounted stop lamp retaining screws to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

Connect the electrical connector to the stop lamp.
Install the inner tail lamp. Refer to Tail Lamp Replacement .

That's definitely doing it the hard way.

Default Brake Light Pulser

I installed one of these units on my "03" about a year ago and the installation was a pretty simple procedure. About the toughest part was snapping the connectors together inside the rear facia, when you couldn't see either end.

The name of the company is webelectricproducts.com and the unit runs $59....

While on a club run, one member who was following me, said that the light really caught his attention everytime it came on....so based upon that I guess you can say that it does it's job!! Hopefully it will prevent some fool on a cell phone from rearending you someday!!

I'd give it a "9" for ease of installation and a "10" for functionality..

Happy Holidays...
