First - it used to be against the Forum rules to post an Ebay link. Now that they post them, I'm not sure?
Second, why are you trying to save $20 on an important item as a CLB ? I used a Corvettes of Houston (COH) CLB, plenty of other people have too, with GREAT results.
Go ahead and save $20, when you get stuck somewhere that $20 will seem very unimportant !
AND you got what you paid for it. . . NOTHING ! There are plenty of documented cases of the recalls failing. If you got the latest (third) recall, you column will NEVER lock, BUT you might be limited to a top speed of 2 mph. It takes a long time to get home going less than 2 mph !

Seems like I've read a few CLB's failing too. It was simple question-has anyone tried this. I wasn't hawking it. I wanted it for the connector-I built my own from the plans but didn't want to hack the factory connector and I could not find a source for it.

I have not heard ANY specifics on a private CLB failing. I have heard that they don't always work on 1997 and 1998 C5's, but I never saw an owner post specifics. COH CLB works fine on my 1998.

I agree with Oldvetter completely. Would be interested in seeing some credible documentation of after market CLB failures.

Prior to the last recall, GM actually reimbursed some owners for aftermarket column lock bypass kits, so I got a refund from GM.
I also removed the lockplate just to be safe, and installed one of the original Harness K kits with the good relays myself just to stay with the GM design with the actuator in the circuit. The GM kit is still working over 3 years later, and I have the CLB as a backup.
I just received this same one from Fleebay and have not installed it yet. It looks well made and has good instructions...guess I'll let you all know how it worked out.
Please someone tell me if I am ok. I have an 04 CE Vert and had the recall done at the dealer. I have not had any problems....will I ?
If you had the correct (last) recall done, your column will NEVER lock up BUT you might be limited to 2 mph. A top speed of 2 mph kinda takes all the fun out of owning a Corvette.
Once they have flashed your BCM for the recall, you are screwed. If the K-harness relays fail (and a lot do), your gas will be shutdown at 2 mph so GM has no liability if you were to drive with a locked column (which will not any longer lock, make sense? No !).

Oldvetter, you need to know what your talking about.... On the a4 there is no flash done. There is no fuel shutoff. They only flash the manuals. If you do get the fuel shutoff it is because the k-harness relay took a dump. Simple fix plug it back in to stock and get a new k-harness or clb........

And how do you know he doesn't have a MN6 ? He never says and his profile doesn't list it. But you are correct, I should have said that this applies only to MN6's.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
