trunk latch repair
Other times needed to slam it or lower it to near bottom then push down firmly.Often needed repeating efforts.
Basically was a game and very frustrating.
Tried to adjust the height of the locking mechanisms repeatedly.
Well I believe I got it!!! It is not a mechanical failure-- it is an electrical failure !!
There is a small piece in the lock which is supposed to open and close when the FOB is activated. While working on the lock I noticed this did not work every time I pressed the FOB.
I removed the trunk rear carpet liners to access the lock. Removed the locking mechanism-only two screws-and TWO ELECTRICAL connections.
One connector is for the trunk lights the other for the lock.
I slightly bent the male fingers of the connectors and reinserted them into the female attachments being sure the connection was now good and snug.
TATAAAHHH !! Problem solved. Locking component now works every time I test press the FOB button[not just once in a while]and the trunk latches like butter.
I would bet this could even be the trunk releasing gremlin some guys were getting when car was being driven. An electrical failure as the connectors failed to deliver a full and solid contact or were jiggling on/off with road vibration.
