with any decent cam upgrade you need to do pushrods and valve springs. At 400-425rwhp you will need at least a 224/224 cam (for 400rwhp) or 228/232(for 420+rwhp) with new springs and pushrods..Swapping valve springs and pushrods is easy, why would you not want to do it. Do a search in the Z06 forum for broken valve springs and see how many stock broken springs there are with the stock cam, quite a few... Texas Speed has some really good cam packages that come with springs on sale right now..TSP Cam, PRC Springkit, Chromoly Pushrods: $689.99

I would only do the PRCs and moly pushrods. I've used them on many cars..I wont use any single springs(ie.918s) on cammed cars. Some people do, but its not worth it to me. especially on the more aggressive lobe designs of todays cams. . Stick with something like their 224/224, .581"/.581" or their 228/228, .588"/.588" and a 112LSA for the 224, 114LSA on the 228 or a 112LSA on the 228 if you like a little chop at idle...

Yes you need the chain. The LS2 chain is made much better. I have a pic of them side by side I can post when I get home tonight.. Avg install cost should be around $450-$600. Its about a 6 hour job..Then you will need a custom tune which are anywhere from $350-650 depending on the shop... I'm right in the middle of doing a cam, springs, chain, pushrods and Fast 90/90 intake on my friends 03' Vette. So its pretty fresh in my head...
