I have a 2000 A4 w/3:15s. What would be a good suggestion on a cam/heads pkg? I want a mild cam, when I say mild I mean, I don't want it to be real radical sounding. Help
what you want is the LPE 219 cam, little to no lope, pulls like crazy to 6k. he puts it in his top end packages and his 383's. i dont care for a car that shakes like crazy at idle...needs to idle at 1000+ to stay alive, my lpe 383 idles at 750-800 with out a hickcup. it is too easy to overcam a engine and you loose the fun factor of the car.
Depends on your budget on the heads--an exceptional set will cost around $2400--As mentioned the AFR 205's is a good choice for a mild set--but may be still an overkill if you want longevity and a mild set-up-I would think a set of new LS6 heads would be just perfect for a mild cam(It's what I run on my 390 RWHP A4) & they worked out great---for a good choice on the cam --I agree with the other suggestion--somewhere in the .220-.224 range @ 50 is good--lift isn't important but i'd keep it less than .550---LSA IS important--nothing lower than a 114 for a nice idle and a smooth TQ curve ( mine is a .221/.221 @50--lift is .550 and LSA is 114- mine idles smooth at 750 and passes calif emissions to boot !!!
I had all the bolt ons , stock LS1 heads and the TR224 on a 114. It's a wonderful cam which passed emmission inspection ( tail pipe ) in both NY and VA.
No down side to the set up and put down 370 RWHP which is about stock numbers for the 2002-2005 ZO6.
Honestly, you had to listen to the motor good to tell it was camed
Either way you go, you'll have to change your converter first
