Yes you can remove the belt.
While it is off, hand spin the pulleys they should spin freely and smmothly if they wobble or feel gritty you have found your culprit.
My problem was the A/c clutch pulley. If that is you problem it will be fixed when you put in the new compressor
After reading your posts. I have a 99 conver with 92k on the clock. Something starts squealing, and I have to check chit out now. Tensioner, AC, Belts, yada yada yada. At least I'm not taking it to the stealer. I'd rather pay to replace everything on the front end before taking it to those thieves. Anyway, I'll be back when I need more help. This place is great. It should be enshrined somewhere. Dunno where, but somewhere. DK -- anyone have pictures of a replacement? Thanks.
