Default intake

I have a 99 frc. Going with a z-06 intake and was going thru my manual and picture shown has a flat bottom intake. Is it possiable that it has a z-06 intake stock? I thought the flat bottom were z-06 and the concaved were ls1 intake? Or do I have it backwards?

Hi johnnied -

The two are exactly the same with regard to the bottom piece.

The lid of the 02 and later Z06 has a much large intake port.

best regards -

I believe he's talking about the intake manifold, not the air intake...

The ls6 intake manifold is flat on the bottom.

I would like to offer an alternative for you to think about if you are planning on switching to the LS6 intake manifold.

Take a look at the TPiS web page and their LS6 intake manifold modification that allows you to bolt on the GM LS2 90 mm throttle body - http://www.tpis.com/index.php?module...ake+Components

You can pickup all the power of the LS6 manifold, with the added airflow and power increase of the LS2 90 mm throttle body.

TPiS converts your LS6 manifold for $350 and you can buy a LS2 throttle body for approximately $275. Those two pieces, plus the LS2 throttle body wiring harness for $60 would give you very close to what a FAST LSx intake manifold will produce for $880, plus $275, plus the $60.

Good luck on your decision.

Hi hotwheels -

I see - thanks - my mistake.

I always thought those were called intake manifolds.

A little searching using that term will yield the differences and the years where a ls6 intake was used on the ls1 engine.

best regards -

Take a look at your part numbers and see if they match each other!

It'll be on the side of the manifold, I'm not at home right now so I can't get my number off the Z06 intake to see if it match's your's!

It sounds like you might poses two LS6 manifolds because they are flat on the bottom and the LS1's are raised so the coolant tube can run underneath from front to the back and there is no way for the LS6 manifold to sit on top of the coolant tube from the LS1!

See this link http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=5

Thanks,Matt

^^ I have a 99 FRC like you. If the intake is stock then it is not a Z06. If you bought the car used and don't know I would check part numbers to see if you have the LS1 versus LS6 manifold.
