Default Looking for info on engine over heat indicator

I have heard of a device that can be attached to and engine block that will indicate if the engine has ever been overheated. It changes color or something.

Does any one know anything about these or where I can go to find out about them, where to buy them, etc.

I can't imagine anything that would tell you if an engine has been overheated in the past. The only thing that I can think of is there is a test kit that samples the coolant and will tell you if there are any combustion gasses present. That would indicate a leak in a head gasket that could cause overheating.

There are kits available. Most use paint or stickers that changes color at a certain temperature. These test are usually used on brake rotors, calipers, wheels, bearings, ect. You would have to decide at what temperature you consider over heating. Mcmasters has then.
