Default Help Plz

I need a picture of a 98 vette with the fuel rails exposed...mainly just the driver side. Im trying to get everything hooked up on my new motor and not sure where one tube goes..it looks like a vacuume of some sort but not sure....maybe egr stuff. on the driver side where the large quick connect at the front of the intake you follow that tube it goes into a part with an electrical plug then has a small line that goes the the front of the ??? 1. tB i think ....then if you continue to follow the larger line to another small piece that has an electrical plug and a small tube that I have no clue where it goes...a picture would be nice or even someone to tell me what these two items are and what they do...or even where they hook up....
thanks a heap in advance!!!

The block that has hoses running from it and an electrical plug sounds like your EVAP solenoid. Can't tell you much more as I have a 99

I have an 02 Coupe. If yours is like mine...

The EVAP solenoid is basically used to vent fumes out of the fuel tank and either let them get mixed in with the air/fuel in the intake, or when the car is not running, allow the fumes to be put into the EVAP canister which is full of carbon material which can absorb fuel vapor and also release it when air flows through it.

The black thing with the electrical connector on it is the EVAP purge valve solenoid. The tube going forward from the EVAP solenoid goes into the intake right behind the throttle body. That is a smooth rigid black tube bent like a lazy L shape. Going toward the rear from the EVAP solenoid there is another rigid black tube, but that one is not smooth, it is ribbed (like an accordian) all along it's length. It has a 90 degree facing schraeder valve with a tan colored cap on the end that connects to the EVAP solenoid. The tube is about a foot long and is wavy (it snakes in and around the fuel injector connectors). The rear end of it attaches to a tube which is mounted on the firewall right near the rear end of the driver's side head. The tube on the firewall is sharing a bracket (on the firewall) with the primary fuel line, so don't get them confused.

Hope this helps.

I know that there are some differences between the earlier and later C5's. For example the early ones had two braided lines going into the driver's side fuel rail cover. Later ones like mine only have one; the primary fuel supply line that goes right into the fuel rail. Also, I know early models had an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Later ones don't have that. So I'm not the best source to help you.

I have a few recommendations: Take a photograph of your engine with specific items you have questions about. Then post them up on the forum with a more descriptive title for the thread. I.e. this thread labeled "help plz" just doesn't pull in the right people. Label it something like "what connects to this on my engine (pics)?" and you'll likely draw in folks that know what you need. There are lots of folks on this forum every night who have the info you need. You just have to get to them.

I know this isn't specifically helping you solve your immediate problem, but I'm not familiar with the earlier model C5's.

Also, I highly recommend you get a set of Service Manuals for your car. Brand new from Fitchner Chevrolet (support dealership on this forum) for about $130. Or sometimes you can find them for sale by members who've either sold their vette or moved up to another one. Either way, they're invaluable. I use mine all the time. They are year specific, so mine won't help me help you.

You may also be able to go to the Member Galleries on this site and go down to the C5 engine photos and just start looking at photos. But that would be my last route because the vast majority of those photos are going to show fuel rail covers installed and most don't have the detail I think you need to be able to see.

Good luck.

Sorry, I'm not sure, but maybe someone else will chime in. I just got home and my wife took the car out. I will try another pic tomorrow if you don't get any replies.

Thanks for your time, its no rush because I won't need to work on it till after new years. Trying to get my tune correct but seems that the car has a vacuume leak and that is prolly it.
