I have a set of 2 18x8.5 and 2 19x10 C6 Z06 style rims for C5 offsets. I brought them to a place to get mounted and balanced and the guy said that the sensors would not fit. I have the 97-00 sensors through Gene Cully at GMPartshouse. I brought the wheels to a place that works on a lot of corvettes and they have done many before. Do any of you know why they wouldnt fit?
I thought the early sensors were banded to the center of the rim while the later model ones were integrated with the valve stem. Hopefully, some one more knowledgeable than me will post in.
I have aftermarket replica C6 Z06 wheels in 17 and 18 inch (stock C5) sizes.
my 1997 sensors, which are made into the valve stem, fit fine.
I have no idea why 18 and 19 wont work, at least the 18s should, mine do.
Double check that they understand that the nut has to come off for the valve stem to go through. They dont' just stick in the hole. I'm sure being a tire installer they would know this though.
Did they give any more explanation other that "won't fit" (i.e. what about them makes them not fit?)
All C5 sensors are integrated into the valve stems. C4 sensors are banded to the wheel. I have heard of sensor mounting problems on some after market wheels, do not recall which ones. Seems like some members glued them in or something.
Brought it to a different place. Guy knew exactly what to do. Used a little bit bigger of an O ring and they sealed up fine. I guess some places really lack the experience when it comes to TPS sensors. Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated.
