A new 04 convertable for $37K ... I highly doubt it.

I agree the price is possibly too high, and I'd definitely get an oil analysis done before purchase. If the TBN of the oil is depleted acid formation could have done some damage. He didn't do the car any favors by not driving it.

I know the $37K price tag is high. I will make him an offer if I want to pursue this car --- I just wanted info on how much damage might be done to the engine and drive train due to the lack of maintenance.

I need a C5 (1998-2004). I am looking for a solid donor C5 car to rip apart and do the following www.crcoachworks.com. It's a solid drive train that I am seeking.

I got mine with a warranty and the car lived in the dealership on and off for the next 3 years. Find a NON-Mint car that has been DRIVEN and pay a lot less for it. BIGHANK

The price is high as previously posted.
I believe you can get a GMPP extended warranty if you take the car to a GM dealership , have them go over it with a fine tooth comb , pay for any problems and certify it.

The oil IS contaminated from water, and particulate matter. Not to mention harmful contaminates that can cause build up and scoring.

ANY true engine fanatic would know, you change the oil 3k or 3 months, and synths whenever the manufacture recommends.

I wouldn't touch that car with a 10 foot pole.

Looks like a landslide against this purchase, but your project idea looks sweet. (I am looking for a solid donor C5 car to rip apart and do the following...)

I hope you find a winner for the cool retro ragtop.

Converting the body to the CRC Coachworks design has nothing to do with the condition of the engine and drivetrain. I think that you will find that C5's that even have high mileage and are well taken care of will last a long time. It's too easy to find a nice car with 50-60K on the odometer that will still provide another 100-150K of miles before you have to think about major repairs.

You should be able to find a really nice 02 'vert for under $25K and that is a good deal considering the $35K+ over and above the price of the car that you will spend at Doug's shop.

Thank you ALL for your input. If I can't get a much lower price I'm going to pass on this car. Will be looking for a 2002-2004 C5 with less than 20,000 miles on her. Looking for a garage queen that has been well maintained.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to ALL
