Default OBD2 pin signals....

Does anyone have a schematic showing which pins in the OBD2 plug carries which signals, such as RPM, throttle position, etc?

I'm trying to get inputs for my Data Acquisition system without splicing into wires. In additon to the above, I'd like to get steering angle, brake pressure and oil pressure if possible.

TIA!

I don't believe you will get what you are after from the OBD-II Plug, since it is serial style data.

Here is what I found for you:

OBD II Connector Pinout

For vehicles sold inside the US, the government mandates OBD II compliance so inspecting your vehicle's connector is not necessary, except if you are concerned that your vehicle might be equipped with CAN.

Vehicle OBD II Connector (front view)

CAN Protocol Pins

If pins 5, 6, 14 and 16 are populated, the vehicle supports CAN. The A-300, A-301 and A-302 Dyno-Scan supports this vehicle.

Pin # Description
5 Ground
6 Data
14 Data
16 Power

ISO and KWP Protocol Pins

If pins 5, 7, 16 and, optionally, 15 are populated, the vehicle supports ISO or KWP. The A-100, A-101, A-300, A-301 and A-302 Dyno-Scan supports this vehicle.

Pin # Description
5 Ground
7 Data
15 Data (this pin is optional and may not be present)
16 Power

VPW Protocol Pins

If pins 2, 5 and 16 are populated, the vehicle supports VPW. The A-100, A-101, A-300, A-301 and A-302 Dyno-Scan supports this vehicle.

Pin # Description
2 Data
5 Ground
16 Power

PWM Protocol Pins

If pins 2, 5, 10 and 16 are populated, the vehicle supports PWM. The A-100, A-101, A-300, A-301 and A-302 Dyno-Scan supports this vehicle.

Pin # Description
2 Data
5 Ground
10 Data
16 Power

It is a serial data stream, You'll need GM specific S/W to decipher most of the Non-generic OBD data. $200 can get the H/W and S/W to do it and do bi-directional tests. I use autoenginuity for my GM and Ford stuff.

There are"Generic" OBD codes that the cheap OBD readers can get to but each manufacturer can use their own codes/test too.

Did you read that page? It's not for diagnosing anything-all it is an extender of the OBD port. OBD uses a non standard Baud rate, the readers and other devices that interface with the OBD connector have circuitry to make this connection.

Direct OBD2 support will depend on the DA that you're using. The factory OBD port does not carry anything over and above the comm lines, meaning it's not like Porsche and a few others that also carry RPM and the like.

For direct DA, it's likely that you'll need to tap a few of the signal lines for what' you're after. Over and above that and assuming that your DA does not directly support VPW, you're down to tracking two separate sources and synchronizing the data.
