Hi...can't seem to find a good ground for the new amp in the rear area of my c5...& prefer not to go back to the battery neg... any suggestions from any1 who has done an amp install...thinking of using the seat mounting bolt or seat belt bolt for the ground...any suggestions/opinions.??..
That's what I did, use the seat bolt. OR- if you pull off the lower B piller covers, you can connect to the factory ground point. There's one on the driver side for sure, don't remember if there's one on the pass. side.
Is only the outter passenger seat mounting bolt a good ground point? Or can both the driver and passenger?
I have sound insulation down on the floor between it and the seat mount point, so will that have any bearing on whether it is still a good ground point? In other words, does the seat mount have to touch the floor bare?
If you want the best ground in my opinion, take off the side b pillar cover and use the factory ground right there. I removed the pillar on the pass. side and bam there was a whole sheet of metal to ground to. HAHA There is actally some sort of relay grounded to it so I simply removed it and added my amp ground.
To answer the question wheather the ground will go through matting. NO you need direct contact with metal

Remember electricity travels on the surface of a metal so ideally, i'd remove a small section of insulation....however i'm not sure how good of a ground the bare floor actually is.

Do it this way so you don't end up with a ground loop and have buzz or hmm in the amp.
