I just installed a Halltech intake on my '99 FRC, the hood closes...well not as good as it did with the stock unit. I have to push it down on each side to get it to latch. Normal?
The after market air bridges are larger than the flattened oem air bridges...so, some of them do interfere with the hood insulator/hood.
That said, many owners do not allow their hoods to drop onto the latches anyway as it might cause stress cracks. I close the carbon fiber hood on my Z16 one side at a time (w/ oem air bridge) with my palm.

I have a Stinger on my '03 Z06 and it hits the hood too. Mine makes the front edge sit up enough to make the hood higher than the nose and it is rubbing the hood liner severely. If I would have known about this interference issue I think I would have chosen differently. Once again I was too quick to purchase without doing my homework. I Should have utilized the search function. YMMV
Thanks very good to know , I won't be buying either one of these cold air intakes, you'd think as over priced as they are they'd at least figured out how make a filter at least clear the Hood and actually draw cool air from outside the engine Bay, no thanks to fiberglass fracture lines in my hood , sure seems like life sure has alot of these blunders spend alot of money on something that winds up doing more damage than good, I was considering buying a Vararam but I read on another message board that it looks like some little kid made the thing, Any reccomendations ? Thanks

Other options? Maybe if I was going to do it again, I'd just pick up a smooth coupler and a Blackwing filter. The Blackwing doesn't come with a new air bridge. So a stock air bridge, smooth coupler and a Blackwing filter. I was down to the Halltech and the Blackwing, smooth coupler and stock air bridge...I chose the Halltech because it came with everything.I may go back and use the stock air bridge with the smooth coupler and filter from Halltech.
edit: I bought it with a clear Vortex breathless performance intake , the one that required to cut a hole in the plastic "radiator support". It was poorly installed and was not up to par with my standards. The design I guess was ok, but the install was sloppy. A few extra holes indicated that the fit wasn't right on the first try...or the second try.
If you guys are having serious issues with clearance between the Halltech bridge and the hood I think you need to adjust the fore-aft positioning. The smooth coupler allows at least 1" of adjustment room where it slips onto the TB. Loosen the clamp and slide it a bit until the bridge sits as low as possible over the radiator bar.
Believe me, lots of us have been running this intake, and if it caused stress cracks or forced you to "slam" the hood when installed properly it would be well known on this board. Mine leaves a small impression on the hood pad, but does not impact the fit of the hood itself.

Thanks for the tip. I think I have it adjusted as good as it's gonna get. I have the small impression on the hood pad. Today was a better fit than yesterday as I guess the hood insulator pad has compressed.
